may three: time travel

Ah, family day.
That's always nice, isn't it?

We started off with Madd re-creating prehistory on the back patio.

And Trevy and I finished reading H.G. Wells' The Time Machine.

It's been a little while since we've been to our natural history museum, and it was free day, so.....

Pretty cool how you can always discover something new, isn't it?  Something you've never seen or noticed before?

Today we got to see a molting Carolina Wolf Spider,
two paleontologists putting together the jaw of the Diabloceratops,

and a close-up of the triops.  (Which are much bigger than the last time we saw them.)

One of our favorites - the Dimetrodon.  Love the Permian.

Mammoth bone

An' to the city park.  One of our favorites.

And then home to settle in and start supper,
only to learn that Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis was ready at the library for Trev.
Oh boy!

So a movie or two and a stack of books later, we're set for a few days of rainy day play.
(And dinner was made for us while we were gone.)

All is well.
And fine and good.

  1. Oh I love your Natural History Museum... we would so be into dinosaurs if we actually had some to visit!!! We will just have to live vicariously through you!!!

  2. Family days (and especially after many days with friends)are the best. Looks like yours was lovely ;)

  3. What a fun day! It is neat to see how well you know your museum. Smithsonian museums are about 2 hours away, so we don't get to go too often. When we do, we like taking sketch books with us and sketch whatever we fancy.

  4. Looks like a great museum! Fun!

  5. My twins are have only just tuned 4 but they are museum experts already! We are planning trips to the Art Institute and Planetarium in the next two weeks, and then when we go to Missouri at the end of the month, we're checking out thier Science Center. I love the unschooling life that lets you go whenever you want to!

  6. Just my sort of day. I would love to visit your Natural History museum.

  7. We'd love to explore that museum! I'm also loving that epic photo of Maddie up high with her ponytail in the wind and that big tree in the background.

  8. I am so loving the triops!

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts!
